Boosting drug delivery to beat cancer

I was in a bad car accident when I was pregnant with my daughter 17 years ago, and she was okay thankfully. However, after I delivered her, my back was real bad. They put me in for an MRI, and [found that] the fourth, fifth, and sixth vertebra were bulging. It was just really bad, so they started the epidurals on me, then the nerve blocks when they didn’t work, and throughout that process, that’s how the pills came into my life.

“In solid tumours, cancer cells grow very fast and start to push the surrounding host tissue to expand further. At the same time, the host tissue exerts reciprocal pressure on the tumour to compress it. This combination of mechanical forces results in tumor stiffening  and compression of blood vessels in the tumour, which in turn hampers effective drugs delivery. In many types of pancreatic and breast cancer, and sarcoma, 80% of the blood vessels are not functional anymore.

My idea focusses on intervening at the vascular level to re-establish blood flow to the tumour, so drugs can easily reach cancer cells and kill them. It treats anemia in people with severe kidney disease. It also raises the levels of the protein in red blood cells that carries oxygen to the body’s organs, called hemoglobin. A health care provider can prescribe human growth hormone for some health reasons. Some drugmakers and workout magazines claim that andro products help athletes train harder and recover faster.

When I had to take them for my back, I didn’t even really like them at first. I was getting sick off them, [so] then the doctor just switched the kind. Once I started, I just… It was very hard to stop.

Anabolic steroids have serious side effects too. What makes some athletes want to use anabolic steroids? These drugs might lower the damage that happens to muscles during a hard workout. That could help athletes bounce back faster from a workout. They might be able to exercise harder and more often. Some people also may like how their muscles look when they take these drugs.

But some studies show that andro doesn’t boost testosterone. They also show that muscles don’t get stronger. The campaign officially ended on December 31 with the publication of a mini-documentary created by Yaga ‘Letter from a Junkie‘ which has since attracted almost 39, 000 viewers on social media. The Yaga team was motivated by the lack of information available on the dangers of Boost, the stigmatization of users of the drug and the seeming lack of willingness by public authorities to take action.

Diuretics also may help athletes pass drug tests that check for signs of drugs in the urine. They dilute the urine and may hide traces of drugs. Teens who take anabolic steroids might grow less than usual too. They also might raise their risk of health problems later in life.

Many athletes take anabolic steroids at doses that are too high. These doses are much higher than those that health care providers use for medical reasons.

Then I started to learn how to talk to doctors after that, and what to say to seek them out. Nutrients are vitamins and minerals in foods that are good for you. Some people try to get more nutrients from products called supplements.

It’s never safe to buy anabolic steroids from a drug dealer. The drugs could be tainted or labeled the wrong way. In the case of non-responders, our approach involves first administering antihistamine treatment. Once the vessels regain proper function, the subsequent treatment for cancer can start.

I was in pain so much, and in the beginning when I was taking those pills, I didn’t have pain anymore, so then I would overdo it, just cleaning, going to work, whatever it was. Then, when they started to wear off, right back to that point. Then, once that happens for a while, you start to build up a tolerance, so then you need another one. The support I received from the ERC has been pivotal in driving my research forward. The timing was particularly fortuitous as I had recently relocated from the USA to Cyprus, only to encounter a collapsed economy with very limited funding for research.

They often have high doses of caffeine and other stimulants. The street drugs cocaine and methamphetamine also are stimulants. Common stimulants include caffeine and drugs called amphetamines.

In cooperation with two oncology centres in Cyprus, we are currently applying this know-how to translational trials, aiming to validate and implement this novel methodology in a clinical setting. “Not all tumours are the same; they manifest distinct physiology and characteristics. Some drug tests may not be able to spot them in a person’s body. Anabolic steroids have no medical use that’s approved by the government. Most serious athletes feel a strong drive to win. Some athletes want to play for professional sports teams. The pressure to win leads some athletes to use drugs that might give them an edge.
