Harnessing the healing energy of music through songwriting, playing as a band, and recording

rock to recovery

Rock to Recovery gives our clients a chance to have fun expressing themselves while working together as a group and enjoying the positive emotions music can produce. For someone in recovery, learning to have clean and sober fun, feeling a part of, connecting to a group, and quieting the mind are keys to a successful new life. Our non-clinical approach is aimed at inspiring, coaching, motivating and supporting individuals to experience real and positive change in their lives by “rethinking your thinking”.

Scientific evidence shows that music, active adventure and water pursuits will trigger the human brain to assist with positive change and self recovery. Rock to Recovery® has developed powerful, engaging and effective remote sessions. With tools like Zoom, Facetime, Skype, Doxy, VSEE and others, we have already transitioned what we already do into the digital realm. We have developed multi-week curriculums and continue to offer our dynamic services over the internet, with incredible results. I love this, it gives me encouragement and reinforces my program and helps me feel good. I love the vortex of redness, thank you for your efforts in helping other people.

We encourage everyone to engage in their own recovery and find their “rock”. In our music therapy program, Solution Based Treatment & Detox clients get hands-on experience writing lyrics, composing, mixing, and recording songs of their creation on studio recording equipment. Rock to Recovery songs are professionally mixed and produced with help from our R2R staff. In music rehab, clients develop their musical prowess and interpersonal skills as a part of their addiction recovery process. Songs are uploaded anonymously to SoundCloud and made available for clients to download and share.

Five Ways to Improve Your Mental Health by Volunteering

The healing power of music brings people together in a team-focused sober community. Our Rock to Recovery curriculum includes personal and professional development exercises that help band people develop creative writing, public speaking, singing, instrumentals, and music production. Participants are provided with a well-rounded, multi-faceted music industry experience. Rock to Recovery is an iconoclastic, innovative, and genuinely supportive program. Rock to Recovery (R2R) was formed on December 12, 2012, by Wesley Geer—well-known as a member of the bands Hed P.E. And Korn—after his experience in rehab due to overcoming drug and alcohol addiction.

As a long-time musician, music took on a new meaning to Geer when he was raw and new in recovery. After staying sober for two years, Geer was offered the job as Korn’s touring guitar player. After successfully touring the world with the band for the next few years, Geer gave back, bringing music into addiction treatment through R2R. Geer, with the help of friends in the music industry, has grown R2R into a prevalent and therapeutic modality in various treatment settings. For an individual in mental health recovery, learning to feel part of and connect to a group, as well as learning how to quiet the mind, are keys to a successful new life.

rock to recovery

Rock to Recovery was created to help soothe the restless souls of those in recovery. We do this by creating a “band” and writing and recording songs together with Rock to Recovery’s staff of professional musicians, who are also in recovery. We help bring fun into treatment and recovery by offering a natural escape from the fear-based mind. We help to vent emotions by writing lyrics and singing together for release, in real-time.

Reconnecting with music is a valuable part of addiction treatment at Solution Based Treatment & Detox (SBT). Like everything else in life, music tends to fall by the wayside for someone struggling with addiction. Rock to Recovery’s professional team of sober musicians guides the music rehab process, helping clients develop their musical talent and songwriting skills as they use rock music to support recovery from addiction.

Our purpose is to inspire and coach towards a more positive future. Music reminds many people in addiction recovery of their early days of drinking and drug use—before the consequences. Creating a mental connection between music and drugs is dangerous because it turns music into a trigger to use.

Rock to Recovery

Our non-profit entity proudly accepts donations to help further our cause, helping people recover through music! Donations finance our efforts to bring our music program to people and facilities that typically do not have funding for our services. Gathering additional support in the pandemic is what your recovery may need. Rock to Recovery helps people heal and transform their lives through the powerful experience of writing, playing, and performing music as a group. This is the rock in their lives that will motivate, inspire and encourage them to refocus positively.

Music and a sense of belonging can encourage people to maintain sobriety. The unique experience of playing music helps repair neural pathways and promotes balanced brain chemistry. Digital versions of the songs are uploaded anonymously to SoundCloud and made available to clients for download or sharing. The goal of each session is to write and record an original song with each group member’s help.

“The power of music to integrate and cure is quite fundamental. It is the profoundest nonchemical medication.”

We tie in a positive theme of hope in recovery throughout the whole process. When the session is done, our “band” members feel a new energy all throughout their minds and spirits. They help bring fun into treatment and recovery by offering a natural escape from the fear-based mind. This helps people grow a sense of belonging and self esteem in addition to helping client’s vent emotions by writing lyrics and singing together for release, in real-time. Rock to Recovery promotes a positive theme of hope in recovery.
