Trulicity dulaglutide dosing, indications, interactions, adverse effects, and more

In studies with rats or mice, Trulicity and medicines that work like Trulicity caused thyroid tumors, including thyroid cancer. It is not known if Trulicity will cause thyroid tumors or a type of thyroid cancer called medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC) in people. Do not take Trulicity if you or any of your family members have ever had MTC or if you have Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2). Vital status was available for 99.7% of patients in the trial. A total of 1128 deaths were recorded during the REWIND trial.

To help prevent low blood sugar, eat meals on a regular schedule, and do not skip meals. Check with your doctor or pharmacist to find out what you should do if you miss a meal. Seventy-five percent (75%) of the randomized population were treated with one antidiabetic agent at the screening visit. Most patients previously treated with an antidiabetic agent were receiving metformin (~90%) at a median dose of 1000 mg daily and approximately 10% were receiving a sulfonylurea. In a clinical pharmacology study in patients with renal impairment, including end-stage renal disease (ESRD), no clinically relevant change in dulaglutide pharmacokinetics (PK) was observed. The adverse reaction profile is consistent with previous clinical trials in adults.

Drug forms and administration

Before using, check this product visually for particles or discoloration. Before injecting each dose, clean the injection site with rubbing alcohol. The effect of dulaglutide on cardiac repolarization was tested in a thorough QTc study. Dulaglutide did not produce QTc prolongation at doses of 4 and 7 mg. The delay in gastric emptying is dose-dependent but is attenuated with adequate dose escalation to higher doses of TRULICITY. Dulaglutide is a human glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist. The GLP-1 analog portion of dulaglutide is 90% homologous to native human GLP-1 (7-37). Structural modifications were introduced in the GLP-1 part of the molecule responsible for interaction with the enzyme dipeptidyl-peptidase-IV (DPP-4).

When used to lower blood sugar levels, Trulicity may also be used with other diabetes drugs besides insulin (discussed just above). In clinical studies, researchers tested the effectiveness of diabetes drugs by measuring a person’s hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c). This is a measurement of the person’s average blood sugar levels over the past 3 months. The American Diabetes Association recommends a HbA1c goal of less than 7% for most people. Trulicity and Ozempic are both used to improve blood sugar levels in adults with type 2 diabetes. They’re both used in combination with diet and exercise.

Keep a list of all the products you use (including prescription/nonprescription drugs and herbal products) and share it with your doctor and pharmacist. Do not start, stop, or change the dosage of any medicines without your doctor’s approval. TRULICITY delays gastric emptying and thus has the potential to reduce the rate of absorption of concomitantly administered oral medications. The delay in gastric emptying is dose-dependent but is attenuated with the recommended dose escalation to higher doses of TRULICITY [see Dosage and Administration (2.1)]. The delay is largest after the first dose and diminishes with subsequent doses.

Taking Trulicity with other drugs

In the placebo-controlled studies in adults, injection-site reactions (e.g., injection-site rash, erythema) were reported in 0.5% of TRULICITY-treated patients and in 0.0% of placebo-treated patients. As with most drugs, some people can have an allergic reaction after taking Trulicity. In clinical trials, allergic reactions occurred in 0.5% of people who took Trulicity. This medication can cause a certain type of thyroid tumor (thyroid C-cell tumors) in rats. It is unknown if this medication can cause similar tumors in humans. Talk with your doctor about the benefits and risks of treatment with this medication.

Talk with your doctor if you have questions about the best foods to eat for managing your blood sugar levels. You can also discuss finding a registered dietitian or nutritionist to help develop an eating plan that works for you. And this could make it difficult for you to manage your blood sugar levels if you have diabetes. So you may need to limit the amount of alcohol you drink while using Trulicity.

Trulicity and birth control
